The May Natural History Museum has over 7,000 specimens on display, making it the largest private bug collection in the world. It is located at 710 Rock Creek Canyon Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80926. Founded in 1947 by James May, the museum is home to brilliant butterflies and colorful moths, as well as giant spiders and deadly scorpions. May collected these insects all over the world during his lifetime, and now his granddaughters run the museum. The museum also boasts an excellent gift shop and picnic area.
There are 60 attractions in Colorado Springs, including several man-made and natural wonders. It’s difficult to see them all in one trip, but Tracy, Chelsy, and Sarah decided to try to do just that in five days. They were pleasantly surprised by how much they got done in five days! Another interesting attraction is the famous Herkimer statue, which has been at the museum for more than 50 years. It’s an impressive piece of art, and a must-see for anyone visiting Colorado Springs.
A little further south, in the historic district of downtown Colorado Springs, is the Pikes Peak Living History Museum, which showcases the life of local pioneers in four time periods. The museum features interpreters who provide an engaging tour through history. The Living History Program is available Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5 PM. It’s a fascinating museum with many fascinating artifacts and treasures. A visit to this museum will certainly leave you wanting to learn more about the area’s history.

For history buffs, there’s the Western Museum of Mining and Industry. This museum features working steam engines and scale models of mills.
