Peterson Air & Space Museum- Pikes Peak

If you’re an aviation enthusiast, you’ll want to visit the Peterson Air & Space Museum at the Peterson Aerospace Defense Command base in Colorado. This museum focuses on the history of the Air Defense Command and the Aerospace Defense Command as well as the Air Force Space Command. If you’re an Air Force veteran, you can learn about the history of the United States Space Program at this museum. 

You can tour historic aircraft at the Peterson Air &Space Museum located inside the former base buildings, and learn about the many roles the base played in world history. The museum’s building complex is built around three of the original runways, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Approximately 20,000 people visit the museum every year. Among the exhibits are fighter jets and air to surface missiles.

The museum is the oldest aviation museum in Colorado, named after a World War II Army Air Forces pilot. Located on the site of Colorado Springs’ first municipal airfield, the museum has a rich aviation history. In addition to historic aircraft, you can see a real Air Force Warning Star, which served as an airborne early warning and control aircraft from the 1950s through the 1970s.

If you want to work out, the Peterson Air &Space Museum is the perfect place to work out and relax. Its fitness center is open Monday through Saturday. It is rated as the best facility of its kind in the Space Force. There are spinning classes, aerobics classes, taekwondo classes, and a variety of other activities. The water polo and swim lessons at the Aquatics Center are open year-round, but the early hours are restricted to Active Duty personnel.

If you’re interested in history and the history of flight, a trip to the Peterson Air & Space Museum is a must. The museum features over 20 planes and other spacecraft. It is housed in the original airfield buildings built during World War II. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm, and admission is free. Access to the museum is controlled due to security concerns.

In addition to air and space exploration, the museum features exhibits that show the history of North American space defense. The Museum also houses three aircraft from the Royal Canadian Air Force. The Avro CF-100 Mark 5C Canuck, a modified version of the CF-100 fighter, was used for patrolling the vast Canadian north. The Mark 5C Canuck was also fitted with radar jammers and chaff dispensers.

In the city of Colorado Springs, the Peterson Air &Space Museum is located in the terminal building of the airport. The building is an excellent example of Art Deco architecture and serves as the main entrance to the museum complex. The Museum houses a gift shop and a theater. Exhibits in the museum include historic aircraft from World War II, including the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter.
