Most COS residents and community members have heard of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. So we’re often surprised when we hear our clients say that they’ve never experienced the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo first-hand. As a Colorado Springs-based company, the Insurance Stops is very familiar with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. In fact, most of our team members here at the Insurance Stops are huge fans of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo! Because of this, we’re always excited to recommend fun things to do at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
Below is a list of some of our favorite things to do at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Take our word for it, or experience the zoo for yourself and see what it has to offer!
Feed the Giraffes
Feeding the giraffes at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is an incredible experience, and it’s arguably the most popular attraction at the zoo. Walk on elevated paths, purchase giraffe food at a designated feeding station, and come face to face with a giraffe for the very first time! Giraffe-feeding is popular amongst kids and adults alike, so if you were planning on bringing the whole family, then you’ll definitely want to stop by to feed the giraffes!
Ride the Mountaineer Sky Ride
The Mountaineer Sky Ride is a chair lift ride that takes you high above the exhibits and gives you a bird’s eye view of the whole zoo and the classic Colorado scenery. These chair lift tours are a great way to experience the whole zoo without ever having to worry about your feet getting tired. The Mountaineer Sky Ride runs year-round, weather permitting.
Tour the Budgie Buddies Aviary
Budgie Buddies is a walk-in aviary that’s filled of hundreds of friendly little birds called “budgies”. Participants are given cups of bird food so they can feed and hold the budgies as they pass through the aviary. Budgies are known for their friendly nature, so this tour is particularly popular amongst kids and their families.
Feed the Elephants
If you’ve ever wanted to come face-to-face with an 8,000-ton elephant, then now’s your chance! The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo offers supervised elephant-feedings through the months of March and October. Schedule an elephant feeding, and experience what it’s like to get up-close and personal with a gentle giant! Visit their website to schedule your very own elephant-feeding session, and view their complete calendar of animal demonstrations!
